What is PM Vishwakarma?
PM Vishwakarma, formally Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, is a 100% centrally funded scheme launched by the Government of India on 17 September 2023 (Vishwakarma Jayanti) with a total outlay of ₹13,000 crore over five years (FY 2023–24 to FY 2027–28). The scheme targets traditional artisans and craftspersons, the Vishwakarma community, who work with their hands and tools in 18 specified trades, and who have historically been excluded from formal credit and skill development systems.
PM Vishwakarma provides a complete ecosystem of support: formal recognition through a government certificate and ID card, basic and advanced skill training with a daily stipend, a free toolkit worth up to ₹15,000, collateral-free credit in two tranches (₹1 lakh first, ₹2 lakh second), and market linkage support through e-marketplace integration. The scheme is implemented jointly by the Ministry of MSME, the Ministry of Skill Development, and the Ministry of Finance, with SIDBI as the implementing financial institution for the credit component.
